Minutes for January 28,  2010


DRAFT

Location: AOT Boardroom, 5th Floor National Life Drive, Montpelier, Vermont

Present:  Charles Delaney, Brad Barratt, Tim de la Bruere, Judy Dow and Diane Dian Mueller, and Richard Bernier

The meeting started at 1:00 PM

1. The Minutes from September 24, 2009 and November 19, 2009 was presented and accepted.

2. Judy made a motion to table the rest of the agenda until later today so that Giovanna Peebles could address the commission next. Charles 2nd the motion all agreed.

3. Gio explained her new role and invited us to her office for a visit.
 Gio is now the state archeologist and the new State Historical Preservation officer and director.
Gio explained the status of burial bills H 26 and H 281 to the commission.

4. Charles explained how the indigenous forum that was held in Burlington on December 12, 2009 went.
5. Discussion occurred around the publication from the secretary of state’s office on Vermont history. It appears nothing about Abenakis or other Native people in Vermont is listed before 1791.

6. We discussed what should go on the website and what should not. Tim expressed concerns about what were the boundaries we should be using. Tim will follow up with a call to Governor’s Counsel Susanne Young to find out what can be posted and what cannot be posted.

7. Tim made a motion to accept the letter dated January 28, 2010 addressed to Representative Michael Consejo and Senator Vince Illuzi Illuzzi . Brad seconded. Judy yes, Brad, Yes, Tim Yes, Charles No. Charles will send the letter out to the appropriate people: the Senate Economic Development Committee, the House Committee on General, Housing, and Military Affairs, Senator Diane Snelling, and House Speaker Shap Smith.

8. Next meeting agenda item – procedures.
