Presenter Melody Walker Brook will lead a discussion on “Walking in Two Worlds: Abenaki Women in the 21st Century.” Native women occupy a unique cultural space and as is said of native people in general, they walk in two worlds. Torn between older ways of life and assimilation into the dominant society, it is often difficult to navigate between them and maintain a distinctive identity. Melody will answer questions on existing as a native woman in past and present-day Vermont, part of the homeland Abenaki people label Ndakinna.
