Abenaki Heritage Celebration Week

We have received information from reliable sources that Governor Shumlin will be signing into law, Tribal Recognition for the St Francis / Sokoki of Missisquoi and the Kowasuck Abenaki of the Koas during this event.
This will be held in the Governor's Ceremonial Office at 1pm.

Posted 4.30.2012

In 1993, Governor Dean proclaimed the first week of May as ABENAKI HERITAGE CELEBRATION WEEK. It was to be a statewide event to acknowledge the contributions of the Vermont’s Native Americans.

This year the celebration is coming back. The theme is KEEPING ABENAKI LEGACY ALIVE IN ME. It is for all those who know they are Abenaki. It is for those who support the Abenaki. It is for those who feel in their hearts about being Abenaki.

It is for everyone!

The date is MAY 7, 2012. The place is the STATE HOUSE LAWN. The time is 12NOON.

Come and join those who wish to bring this week back! Bring your drums! Bring your music! Bring yourself! Come and honor the past – celebrate who are here today  - and applaud the next generation to come.

Isn’t it about time?
